Anti-cancer diet!

Whether you have a history of cancer in your family or you've been diagnosed with the disease, there are certain lifestyle choices, which includes your diet, that can make a huge difference in helping you prevent cancer.

"What you eat and what you don't" has the potential to adversely affect your health. You may not be aware some foods can actually increase the risk of cancer, while others support your body and strengthen your immune system. Research shows that as many as one-third of all cancer deaths are linked to diet and physical activity. A case in point start making smart dietary choices and reduce your risk for cancer. Follow these healthy and effective anti-cancer diet approved by doctors and experts around the globe.

1) Focus on cancer-fighting fruits and vegetables

Diets high in fruit, like oranges, berries, peas, bell peppers, dark leafy greens and other foods high in vitamin C may lower the risk of stomach, lung and esophageal cancer while vegetables containing carotenoids such as carrots, brussels sprouts and squash, help reduce the risk of lung, mouth, pharynx, and larynx cancers. Diets high in non-starchy vegetables, such as broccoli, spinach, and beans, is considered effective for stomach and esophageal cancer. Foods high in lycopene, such as tomatoes, guava, and watermelon, may lower the risk of prostate cancer. The less processed the better.

2) Include fiber in your diet

Stock up on fiber-rich foods. Fiber plays a key role in cleaning your digestive system. It helps keep food moving through your digestive tract and it also moves cancer-causing compounds out before they can create any trouble. A fiber-rich diet may help prevent colorectal cancer and other digestive system cancers, including stomach, mouth, and pharynx.

Found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, an ideal fiber-rich diet may include brown rice, whole-grain bread, popcorn, raisin bran, barley, oatmeal, pear, banana, apple, carrots, celery, bell peppers, raspberries, apples, strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, mango, apricots, citrus fruits, dried fruit, prunes, raisins, legumes, lentils, black beans, split peas, lima beans, baked beans, kidney beans, pinto, chick peas, navy beans, black-eyed peas, broccoli, spinach, dark green leafy vegetables, peas, artichokes, corn, tomatoes, brussels sprouts.

3) Water

Drink plenty of water. It is essential for fighting cancer. It stimulates the immune system, removes waste and toxins, and transports nutrients to all of your organs.

4) Limit alcohol

That includes wine too. Alcohol consumption has been linked to increased risk of mouth, esophagus, pharynx, larynx, liver and breast cancers. Therefore it is best advised to keep a check on your alcohol intake. Men should limit to no more than two drinks a day while women should keep it at one drink per day, says Dr Archit Pandit, Consultant, Max Super Speciality Hospital.

5) Alternate options for drinks

Doctors would advice you to opt for tea, coffee & less fruit juice.

6) Cut down on meat

We know you love meat, but how will you relish it when you don't even have a good health? That's why experts suggests you eat less of the red meat and cut down on processed meat. Too much of red meat has the potential to increase your cancer risk. Choose fish, poultry, or beans instead of beef, pork or lamb. When you eat meat, choose lean cuts and eat smaller portions. Prepare meat by baking, broiling, or poaching at lower temperatures, rather than by frying in fat or broiling/grilling at excessively high temperatures. FYI, research shows that vegetarians are about 50 percent less likely to develop cancer than those who eat meat.

7) Be careful of fats

Diet high in saturated fats have been linked to increased risk for many types of cancer. But cutting down on fat entirely is not the answer, either. Because there are some types of fat that actually help protect against cancer. Saturated fats and trans fat are the fats that are damaging. While saturated fats are found mainly in animal products such as red meat, whole milk dairy products, and eggs. Trans fats are found in liquid vegetable oils.

Choose olive and canola oil over the regular vegetable oil. Avoid anything with hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils.

8) Limit fast food

Fried foods and packaged foods, which are high in trans fats needs a check. Limit foods like potato chips, cookies, crackers, french fries, and doughnuts to fight the cancer.

9) Prepare your food in healthy ways

Eating healthy food is not the end of the solution. But how you prepare your so called healthy food is eqally important too. The way you cook your food can either help or damage your anti-cancer efforts. When cooking vegetables, steam until just tender using a small amount of water. This preserves more of the vitamins. Overcooking vegetables removes many of the vitamins and minerals. If you do boil vegetables, use the cooking water in a soup or another dish to ensure you're getting all the vitamins.

10) Use immune-boosting herbs and spices.

To add flavor not just to your food but to your health too, use garlic, ginger, and curry powder. They have the right amount of valuable nutrients to fight cancer.

11) Eat at least some raw fruits and vegetables.

They have the highest amounts of vitamins and minerals, although cooking some vegetables can make the vitamins more available for our body to use./timesofindia.indiatimes.com/

HEALTH BENEFITS OF POMEGRANATE VINEGAR

Pomegranate is a fruit packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and three times the amount of antioxidants of green tea. Take it raw as garnish or as a healthy snack and you can take advantage of its concentrated nutritional value. Even better, take pomegranate vinegar to get higher dose of pomegranate’s health-giving nutrients!

What Is Pomegranate Vinegar?

Pomegranate vinegar is made from the fruit’ extracts as well as pulp and then brewed to turn it into vinegar. Pomegranate vinegar is perfect as salad dressing; use it to add flavor to various dishes. It could also be used as seasoning to fish and poultry, ingredient for dips, etc. You can also drink pomegranate juice on its own or mixed with your favorite beverages to maintain health and complete your recommended dietary allowance of vitamins and minerals.

Health Benefits of Pomegranate Vinegar

Aids in Digestion

Pomegranate vinegar contains high levels of acetic acid. This compound aids in digestion by boosting the body’s ability to absorb nutrients from the food we eat. To take pomegranate vinegar to aid in digestion, we recommend drizzling the stuff all over your favorite salad or add a couple of tablespoons of pomegranate vinegar in a glass of water after every meal. You can sweeten the drink by adding honey.

Boosts Performance and Energy

Because the acetic acid in pomegranate vinegar aids in better nutrient absorption, the organs work better thereby boosting the body’s performance. What’s more, the concentrated level of minerals and vitamins in pomegranate vinegar will keep the body energized all day!

Efficient Calcium Absorption

People who are lactose intolerant will benefit from drinking pomegranate vinegar daily. When you’re lactose intolerant, you have to find alternative sources of calcium, like broccoli or spinach. Adding a couple of drops of pomegranate vinegar to these greens will help you absorb the calcium in them, helping you achieve stronger bones and teeth.

Lowers Bad Cholesterol Level

Pomegranate contains naturally occurring compounds that keep the heart healthy and cut the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. These compounds include tannins, antioxidants, and vitamin C. The potassium in pomegranate vinegar could also enhance its effectiveness in lowering elevated blood pressure.

Helps Prevent Cancer

Pomegranate vinegar may also prevent narrowing or hardening of the arteries caused by fat deposits, preventing heart attacks, strokes, and other heart and blood vessel ailments. Multiple clinical tests reveal that flavonoids and antioxidants in pomegranate help stop cancer cells dead on their tracks, shrinking tumors by cutting the blood flow within the growth and even triggering the self-destruction of cancer cells! These compounds basically eliminate cancer cells without damaging the healthy cells within.

Boosts Memory and Prevents Mood Swings

The flavonoids and antioxidants in pomegranate vinegar help prevent oxidative damage to the brain. This helps keep the memory sharp and prevents the onset of hormone-related disorders like depression or mood swing. Oxidative damage is also linked to cancer development. By preventing free radicals from damaging healthy cells, pomegranate vinegar stops the proliferation of mutated cells in the body.

DELICIOUS TEXAS EATS TO TRY

Everything’s big in Texas especially the local appetite. So if you are planning a trip down south, better get yourself ready because there are loads of amazing eats in Texas! In today’s post, we are counting down some of the must-try local eats in Texas:

Chicken Fried Steak

Chicken fried steak was developed to make the toughest part of chicken meat more appetizing. This dish is meant to maximize every part of the chicken. Chicken fried steak is made from flour-coated chicken meat pan-fried to golden perfection. The steak is them slathered with cream gravy made from the chicken drippings.

Barbecue

Every household in Texas has a barbecue grill stowed away somewhere. This is barbecue country, after all! Texas is renowned for the sheer number of barbecue restaurants in the region, and everyone has their own special recipe kept under lock and key!
The most popular BBQ in Texas is beef brisket and pork ribs. The meats are either seasoned with a dry rub or a special blend of sauce to be used for marinade and basting. But for purists, they prefer the dry rub. The meats are then slowly cooked over a wooden fire for no less than 8 hours! Most Texans would apply spice rubs for a kick of flavor.

Chili

Chili happens to be the official dish of Texas. The authentic Texas chili does not contain beans. The bright red, savory Texas chili is loaded with tender pieces of beef, seasoned with dried chili and topped with grated cheese and fresh, roughly chopped onions. The Texas chili is similar to a beef stew except it is spicier with no distinct sweetness. The Tex-Mex version of chili contains beans.

Fried Okra

Fried okra is very popular across the south especially in Texas where the plant grows in abundance. The fried okra is made from sliced okra coated with cornmeal batter. The vegetable is then deep fried and served as a snack or as a side dish. Frying the vegetable is important because it masks the slime in the vegetable that some people do not like.

Brisket Tacos

Brisket tacos are simply slow-roasted barbecued beef brisket in a taco. Tex-Mex dishes are very popular in the region. The dish is prepared by adding slices of slow-cooked brisket, chopped onions, cilantro in a warm corn or flour tortilla. The tacos are then topped with cheese. Brisket tacos are eaten as snacks and even as a breakfast food.

Pecan Pie

Texas is one of the major producers of pecan in the world. So it makes sense that pecan is the official nut of the state. Pecan pie is as Texan as you can get. Virtually all restaurant has their own version of this sweet, tasty dessert.

Dr. Pepper

Nothing like a bottle of Dr. Pepper to wash down all that yummy Texan foods! Dr. Pepper is Texas’ answer to Coke, which was developed at the Morrison’s Old Corner Drugstore in Waco in 1885. This drink is made from sugar cane instead of high fructose corn syrup. 100 years since it was manufactured, Dr. Pepper is still more popular than ever.

THE BENEFITS OF OKRA FOR DIABETICS

Okra – also known as lady fingers – is a type of tropical flowering plant that belongs to the mallow family. The plant yields edible green seed pods used as a vegetable in cooking. The pods contain zero cholesterol and are low in calories.
While the okra is certainly a highly nutritious vegetable, a growing number of scientists are suggesting that it does more. Okra may be used to treat diabetes.
According to the World Health Organization or WHO, diabetes is the 6th deadliest disease in the United States. It also contributes to the development of often-fatal cardiovascular diseases and end-stage renal disease. Several studies conclude that okra may minimize a number of diabetes-related symptoms. In today’s post, we are listing down the benefits of eating okra among diabetics:

Regulates Blood Sugar Level

Okra has low glycemic index or GI. GI is the measurement in which carbohydrates are turned into sugar in the blood. Regular consumption of low glycemic foods helps stabilize blood sugar levels. Okra is a great way to control the blood sugar level while keeping the weight down. This vegetable has a GI of below 20.

Aids in Weight Loss

Doctors recommend that diabetics keep their weight within the normal range in order to prevent complications related to diabetes. These complications range from heart disease, stroke to high blood pressure. Eating high cholesterol foods could also increase the risk of health complications rooted from diabetes. Okra aids in weight loss by making you feel fuller. When you feel fuller, you don’t get the urge to snack on unhealthy foods. Okra is also rich in fiber. This compound bulks up the stool and prevents heart disease.

Protects From Kidney Disease

In a study published on the “Jilin Medical Journal,” researchers found that diabetics who ate a diet rich in okra saw reduced signs of kidney damage as opposed to patients who were given a regular diabetic diet.
Diabetics are at higher risk of sustaining kidney damage because of sustained high blood pressure and blood sugar. These factors make it hard for the kidneys to work properly. Eventually, the organs will fail from long-term damage. That’s why it’s important to keep the blood sugar within normal level. Maintaining a normal body weight is also essential in decreasing the risk of kidney disease. Regular consumption of okra promotes healthy kidneys.

Loaded with Soluble Fiber

Okra is nearly 50% soluble fiber. This type of fiber aids in digestion and keeps the heart healthy. It also reduces the effects of carbohydrate-rich foods on blood sugar levels. Soluble fiber also suppresses the appetite. It delays the digestion process so you feel fuller for longer. Just a 25 gram serving of fiber per day can reduce the risk of high blood sugar levels significantly!

Protects the Heart

Diabetics are more vulnerable to heart disease. To reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetics should stick to a vegetable-based diet. Eating plenty of okra helps minimize complications related to the heart. It contains soluble fiber that keeps the heart healthy plus essential nutrients that lower heart disease risk.
In fact, a study published in the “Journal of Nutrition” found that type 2 diabetics who ate more vegetables like okra lowered their risk of heart disease by 10% as opposed to patients who ate vegetables infrequently./healthydietbase.com/

Which Foods Are Safe for Parakeets to Eat?

Parakeets are tropical birds, and they sure can eat like it. They need a wide variety of foods in their diet to stay healthy. It's a lot of fun to offer your bird a tasty variety of things to eat. You will find that your parakeet has his own taste preferences! Learn what he likes, what he doesn't like, and what his very favorites are. Here is a list of foods that are safe to feed to your parakeet.

Veggies

Vegetables are actually a very important part of a parakeets diet. They contain many necessary nutrients that may not be available in a typical store-bought seed diet. Some veggies that are safe to feed to parakeets are:
  • Lettuce
  • Broccoli
  • Carrot (shredded, preferably)
  • Corn
  • Peas
  • Spinach
  • Celery

Bite-Size is Best

Anything you feed to your parakeet should be cut up into small, bite-size pieces. Otherwise, he will have trouble breaking chunks off by himself.

Fruits

Parakeets love fruits. However, just like in a human's diet, these should be fed to your parakeet in moderation. Fruits are high in natural sugars that can be bad for your parakeet when consumed in large quantities. Some fruits that parakeets enjoy most are:
  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Bananas
  • Pineapple
  • Grapes
  • Mango
  • Coconut

Keep It Fresh

While all of these foods are safe for a parakeet to eat, you should only feed your bird fresh fruits and veggies. Dried or packaged fruits especially may have added ingredients that are bad for your feathery friend.

Nuts

Parakeets love to eat all different kinds of nuts! They are tasty, and full of nutrients that your parakeet probably isn't getting anywhere else. Some of their favorites are:
  • Almonds
  • Pistachios
  • Peanuts
  • Walnuts
  • Pecans
Make sure that any nuts that you give your parakeet are chopped. Parakeets cannot eat them whole. Also, any shells should not be included. Your parakeet won't bother with those.

Bread

Your parakeet will enjoy eating whole grain breads, broken up into small bits. Try to stick to simple whole grain breads, though. Sweet breads and other varieties may contain ingredients that are harmful to parakeets. /hubpages.com/

Myth: Extra-virgin cooking oil should not be used for cooking

Myth: Extra-virgin cooking oil should not be used for cooking
Should it be used as a garnish for salads? Does it lose its nutrients after being heated? There are many questions that render cook ing with extra-virgin olive oil a dubious topic in the Indian kitchen.

“However, olive oil is one of the most heat stable oils," says nutritionist Ishi Khosla.“In fact, extra-virgin olive oil is more stable.Hence, it is a myth that it cannot be used for cooking."

That said, heating any oil to high temperatures leads to formation of undesirable compounds and loss of nutrition. Therefore, to derive the maximum benefits from any natural fat, it is better to minimise its heating. Also, it is valuable to know that extra virgin olive oil is low in acid, resulting in a fruity flavour and aroma, so you need to use less to enjoy the flavour./timesofindia.indiatimes.com/.

Myth: Suji (semolina) is a nutritious whole grain

That plate of suji gol gappas is not exactly a healthy diet snack. "Suji (semolina or rava) is the granular form of maida (flour) Its nutritional content is same as any other refined grain like polished rice or refined wheat flour. Whole grain is composed of four major components -husk (inedible portion), outer tough bran (fibre rich), endosperm (starch rich part basically providing complex carbohydrates and energy) and germ (nutrient rich part, a good source of proteins, fat, vitamin E, B, iron, magnesium and chromium). During milling, the fibrerich bran layer is removed and germ also gets ripped off, thereby , abandoning the grain of fibre and nutrition, leaving behind only the starch-rich component, the endosperm. The broken endosperm is called suji and its ground form is flour.

THE BENEFITS OF USING LEMON AS A COLON CLEANSE

A colon cleanse is a detoxification process that purges accumulated toxins in the colon. This process is meant to boost health, improve nutrient absorption, prevent digestive issues, and chronic diseases. The colon forms the upper portion of the large intestines. It absorbs water, salt, and other minerals from the food as it passes into the rectum. From there, waste is eliminated through bowel movement.
Keeping the colon clean is essential to the health. There could be many ways to cleanse the colon and one of them includes taking lemon in either juice or pill form.

Benefits of Colon Cleansing

Purging the colon of toxins presents numerous benefits. The process gives the digestive organs a break from processing food. Colon cleansing flushes out harmful microbes from the body. It also promotes weight loss and improve bowel function. Colon cleansing also recharges the system, allowing the intestines to absorb nutrients more efficiently.

Lemon and Colon Cleansing

Lemon is a type of citrus fruit packed with vitamin C and antioxidants. Vitamin C is a water-soluble nutrient that travels easily through the system to neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are destructive ions that destroy healthy cells, triggering oxidative damage. Studies show that oxidative damage is the precursor of chronic diseases because it triggers cell mutation. Free radical damage is one of the main causes of cancer, heart disease, and other progressive ailments.
By neutralizing the effects of free radicals, lemon reduces the risk of cell damage. When used as a colon cleanser, lemon destroys free radicals in the large intestines so they are eliminated as waste.
Apart from cleansing the colon, lemon also purifies the liver, gallbladder, and the kidneys. Lemon extract kills bacteria and pathogens that cause a number of health problems including gallstones, sore throat, and respiratory problems.

How to Use Lemon as a Colon Cleanser

There are different ways to take lemon to cleanse the colon. One way to do this is to take a lemon pill on an empty stomach and going on a fast for a week. Another way to cleanse the colon using lemon is to drink 12 glasses of lemon juice (lemon extract diluted in water) for 7 to 10 days. The lemon juice mixture is made from organic lemon juice, water, cayenne pepper, and grade B or C maple syrup. You can add a little laxative to the drink to ease bowel movement.

Our Final Thoughts

As a colon cleanser, lemon efficiently purges the system of toxins that could cause a variety of health disorders. It purifies the system so organs work more efficiently. However, colon cleansing may cause a number of temporary discomforts, including dehydration and diarrhea. If you took a laxative together with the lemon mix, you could suffer from stomach cramps.
Our advice is to drink plenty of water to flush the system even further and prevent dehydration. Always check with your doctor before using any type of laxative, especially if you have a history of heart disease or kidney issues. Before cleansing the colon and fasting, you need to prep your body. Again, talk to your doctor about safe ways to cleanse the colon./healthydietbase.com/

THE HISTORY OF ROOT BEER

Root beer is a sweet, dark beverage flavored with the root or bark of the sassafras tree or the sarsaparilla vine. This drink comes in alcoholic and non-alcoholic variants. Enjoyed for decades, root beer traces its roots in colonial times in America.
Apart from the root or bark of the sassafras tree or the sarsaparilla vine, root beer is also made with a variety of herbs. Root beer also comes in different types including birch beer, sarsaparilla beer, and ginger beer.

The Beginning of Root Beer

Root beer was derived from a traditional native American beverage made from sassafras. This herbal drink was used to treat certain ailments as well as mixed in cooking. But as Europeans made their way into the North America, the drink was being prepared using European techniques. The earliest root beer recipe existed in the 16th or 17th century. From the 1840s and beyond, root beer was being sold in candy stores. Written recipes of root beer have been recorded since the 1960s. Historians believe that the root beer recipe was incorporated with soda recipes during the 1850s to make the beverage. However, root beer was sold as a syrup, not as a ready-made drink.
Charles Hires developed the first commercially available root beer recipe. Hires was a Philadelphia pharmacist who allegedly discovered the herbal concoction while on his honeymoon. He began selling the dry version of the tea. Eventually, he developed a liquid version of the recipe. Hires’ root beer recipe was made from over 25 ingredients, including berries, herbs, and roots. He was also the first to combine the root beer mixture to soda pop to alter its flavor.
In 1876, Hires’ version of root beer was launched to the masses through the Philadelphia Centennial exhibition.

Root Beer Ingredients

Root beer was classified as small beers. Small beers are local beverages made from barks, roots, and herbs. Early root beer recipe included allspice, birch bark, coriander, juniper, ginger, wintergreen, and hops. Other ingredients are burdock root, dandelion root, spikenard, pipsissewa, guaiacum chips, cherry bark, yellow dock, prickly ash bark, sassafras root*, vanilla beans, dog grass, molasses, and licorice. All these ingredients add to the rather complex flavor of the beer as well as its distinct color. Some of the ingredients listed above are still being used in modern root beer.
Different companies have different variations of the root beer recipe. Unsurprisingly, these recipes are kept under lock and key! This means root beer does not have a single recipe at all.

Launching Bottled Root Beer

Charles Hire would eventually make his fortune on his herbal concoction. The Hires family continued manufacturing root beer and was the first to distribute the drink in bottled, ready to drink form in 1893. This was the beginning of the modern root beer we know and love today.
Since then, different companies came up with different versions of the more popular recipe developed by Charles. Once such company is A & W Root Beer, which was founded by Roy Allen in 1919.

Brushing and flossing alone are not

Brushing and flossing alone are not enough to keep the teeth healthy. Even with regular brushing, the teeth are still vulnerable to cavities and tooth decay. Destructive bacteria that break down the enamel of the tooth cause cavities. Eventually, cavities will wear away the teeth, causing decay.
Unfortunately, these bacteria love sugar and carbohydrates. The good news is, you don’t have to buy expensive oral care products for healthy teeth and gums. In today’s post, we are listing down practical ways to improve oral health and prevent tooth decay the natural way:

Avoid Refined Sugars

One of the most effective ways to improve oral health without special toothpaste or other products is by avoiding refined sugars. All types of sweet foods expose the teeth to acids that weaken the tooth enamel. Eating sugar treats regularly will lead to plaque buildup that hardens. Once the plaque hardens, bacteria will eat away the tooth. Cutting back on sugary foods minimizes the acidity in the mouth caused by sugar-loving bacteria. The result? Healthy, stronger teeth!

Drink Tea!

Did you know that teas of all kinds improve teeth and gum health? Tea contains anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants that neutralize bacteria that destroy the teeth. Certain types of teas also eliminate plaque buildup and suppress oral infections. To keep the teeth and gums strong and healthy, consider drinking green and black tea three to four times daily.

Avoid Acidic Foods

Acidic foods destroy the tooth enamel the same way as bacteria do. Fruit juices, citrus fruits, and other acidic foods weaken the tooth enamel. Coupled with bacteria buildup and sticky plaque, the teeth become vulnerable to tooth decay and cavities. If you love eating acidic fruits or drinking acidic beverages, we recommend brushing your teeth at least an hour after eating or drinking.

Brushing After Meals

We all know how regular brushing keeps the teeth healthy. But did you know that brushing immediately after eating is actually bad for the teeth? You see, the teeth soften after eating. Brushing the teeth aggravates the already softened enamel of the teeth. Eventually, the enamel will wear away. And once the damage is done to the teeth, there is no way to reverse it! Instead of brushing your teeth immediately after eating, we recommend waiting for at least an hour.

Eat Calcium-Rich Foods

Eating calcium rich foods will keep the teeth resistant to cavities and tooth decay. Foods like nuts, cheese, broccoli, okra, and sardines are loaded with calcium that boosts teeth and bone strength and density.

Cut Back on Carbonated Drinks

Just like acidic beverages like fruit juices and coffee, carbonated drinks also weaken the tooth enamel. If you can, eliminate carbonated drinks from your diet. If you must drink fizzy beverages, use a straw. This way, the flow of the beverage is away from the teeth.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic treatment that keeps the teeth white, strong, and healthy. To perform this technique, swish a spoonful of coconut oil in the mouth. Swish the oil for 20 minutes before spitting it out. The key is to swish the oil continuously and resisting the urge to spit it out. According to practitioners, oil pulling will draw out toxins from the teeth and gums, leaving the teeth healthy./healthydietbase.com/

5 DRINKS YOU SHOULD NEVER DRINK AGAIN

Beverages are so diverse that there must be thousands to choose from! A trip to the largest grocery store would give you dozens of options – a selection of juice, soda, energy drink, coffee, tea, milk, bottled water, beer, wine, and spirit, just to name a few. Add to that the coffee shops, tea houses, wineries, breweries, and specialty shops that sell or serve drinks which aren’t found anywhere else.
All of these beverages are available for your choosing, but not all of them are good for you. Here are the 20 drinks you should never drink again.

1. Fruit Juice

Why it’s bad for you: Most “fruit juices” sold in markets aren’t actually made of fruits. They use synthetic flavors instead of real fruit juice. Refined and artificial sugars are then added as sweeteners. What you get is a sugar-loaded, high-calorie beverage that puts you at risk for obesity and diabetes.
Fruit juices may also contain food coloring and other preservatives to prolong their shelf life. But even those made from real fruits can be detrimental to one’s health. Unless derived from organic sources, they are more likely to be contaminated with pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers. The combination of additives and chemicals in fruit juice create a deadly cocktail for cancer.

2. French Press Coffee

Why it’s bad for you: Also known as the cafetière, it offers a rich coffee-drinking experience which combines bitter flavors with viscous texture. Unfortunately, it isn’t as healthy as other types of coffee. The plunger mechanism doesn’t effectively removecafestol and kahweol, two fatty lipids normally found in coffee. Studies have shown that too much of these lipids increases “bad” cholesterol and raises your risk for heart disease.Another problem with cafetière is its high caffeine content. Each cup has about 100 mg. Excessive intake of caffeine causes a surge in homocysteine, an amino acid that triggers heart attack. You only need 5 cups of cafetière every day for two weeks to raise your homocysteine levels by up to 10 percent.

3. Boiled Coffee

Why it’s bad for you: Whether it’s Turkish, Greek, or percolated, you should never drink boiled coffee again. Forget their rich aroma and tempting flavors. Every cup of this beverage contains more cafestol, kahweol, and caffeine than French press coffee.
Turkish and Greek varieties have the most caffeine with an average of 200 mg per cup. Meanwhile, percolated coffee usually has 124 mg of caffeine. Due to their high caffeine, it takes less quantities of boiled coffee to increase your homostyceine. Thus, you are at greater risk for atherosclerosis or heart attack.
Boiling also results in the better extraction of fatty lipids from coffee beans, which isn’t exactly good for your health. This only means a higher concentration of cafestoland kahweol per cup of boiled coffee, and a greater possibility for heart disease.

4. Flavored Water

Why it’s bad for you: It’s basically water with calories, except that it comes in different flavors and colors. Some contain refined sugars and are infused with real fruit juice, albeit in small amounts. Other varieties include food coloring, artificial flavoring, and even artificial sugars.Flavored water made of artificial ingredients put you at risk for cancer, diabetes, kidney failure, and other serious health problems. Even those made with natural ingredients still have sugar in them, needlessly adding to your daily intake of sugar and calories. Besides, flavored water has poor nutritional value and contains too little vitamins and minerals – or none at all.

5. Cocktails

Why it’s bad for you: Oh it’s not the alcohol that should get you worried, especially if you drink moderately. There’s something more dangerous about these party drinks, and the answer lies in their ingredients. Some cocktail recipes could literally kill you. But it also triggers palpitations, placing you at greater risk for a heart attack and even death. Yikes! Some cocktails simply have too many calories, with the Piña Colada, White Russian, and Frozen Strawberry Daquiri being the greatest sinners of them all. These cocktails average to 560 calories per serving – the same amount you would get from a light meal or a heavy snack.
